Sobre Mariano Shoes
Mariano Shoes is a Portuguese leather footwear brand, founded in 1945 by Manuel de Almeida Jorge in São João da Madeira, a town that remains one of the historic centers of Portuguese shoemaking. Now in the fourth generation of the same family, the brand keeps its atelier in Oliveira de Azeméis, where every pair is made by hand, from cutting to finishing, by in-house artisans. The catalog includes derbys, oxfords, monks, loafers, sneakers, boots, sandals, ballet flats, mules and heels, for men and women, produced to order rather than for stock — a model that reduces surplus and waste. The leather used is a by-product of the food industry, tanned without chromium, and the brand is a member of the Leather Working Group; the cork soles come from Portuguese cork oaks. Production runs on 100% renewable energy (solar, wind and hydro), uses recycled and recyclable packaging, and offsets emissions through a partnership with ZeroPact that funds the "Manica Safe Water" project in Mozambique. Besides the production atelier, the brand keeps a store in Lisboa and sells to customers worldwide, following the same principle since 1945: every pair is designed and built to fit the person who will wear it.
