Sobre Água das Pedras

Água das Pedras is a naturally carbonated mineral water bottled at source, in the valley of Pedras Salgadas, in Vila Pouca de Aguiar, Trás-os-Montes. The gas is not added: rainwater filters into the granite massif at more than 580 meters of altitude, circulates for decades at depths between 500 and 1,000 meters, and it is there that it takes up the calcium, magnesium and bicarbonate that give it its characteristic mineralization, while absorbing the carbon dioxide rising from below. It reaches the spring already carbonated — a rarity among the sparkling waters on the market. The springs began to be worked in 1871, after the Trás-os-Montes physician Henrique Botelho publicized the water's qualities. Two years later a sample taken to the Exposição Universal de Viena, the Vienna World's Fair, earned it a diploma of merit, the first of more than sixty international distinctions the brand has gathered since. The name comes from the sharp, slightly salty taste the water picks up as it passes through the rock. Now part of the Super Bock Group, Água das Pedras is still bottled at the Pedras Salgadas production center, in glass (25, 33, 50 and 75 cl) and in PET. The original water has been joined by Pedras Levíssima, with less gas, and the Pedras Sabores range, with lemon, red berries, passion fruit and tangerine, all made from the same mineral water.
