Ahua designs and produces handplanes for bodysurfing — the small hand-held boards that give lift and speed to anyone catching waves without a board. The range rests on four models, Signature, Axis, Dual and Line, each with its own behavior on the wave, from the most versatile to the most oriented towards precision of line. The material is what sets the brand apart. Every handplane is made of natural cork, finished with marine varnish — a choice arrived at after fifteen years of testing alternatives. Cork stays light in salt water, absorbs the vibration of choppy water and keeps some natural flex, which makes the contact with the hand gentler and the behavior more predictable when conditions pick up. The Signature model measures 28 × 19 × 2.5 cm and weighs around 300 grams. Production is done in Portugal, in small batches, and each model is tested and tuned in real sea conditions. The brand operates out of Charneca da Caparica, in Almada, and backs its products with a two-year warranty.
