Antiga Barbearia de Bairro was born in 2010 as the first brand of 100ml, a perfumery company founded in January 2008 by Luís Miguel Pereira and based in Forte da Casa, in Vila Franca de Xira. The brand started from research into traditional barbershops and into the neighborhoods of Lisboa and Porto — their sounds, colors, gardens and routines — to build a range of men's grooming that crosses perfumery, shaving and design object. The catalog is organized into collections named after neighborhoods. Chiado and Príncipe Real evoke Lisboa, Ribeira evokes Porto, and each brings together a fragrance and the products that go with it: beard oil and serum, cleansing soap for face and beard. Chiado, for instance, is built on tobacco leaf, supported by cedar and sandalwood and opened by the green notes of galbanum and basil. The Essenciais line gathers the tools: artisanal badger-hair brushes, shaving soap, bowls and the shavette blade, which the brand describes as the only straight razor produced entirely in Portugal. The shaving bowl follows an 1870 model from the Museu do Barbeiro e do Cabeleireiro, and the premium Black & Gold line works glazed porcelain painted black with gold decoration. The brand is present in hundreds of specialist stores in Portugal and has been exporting since 2012 to several European markets and to América do Norte — North America.
