Benedita Formosinho is a signature fashion brand founded in 2018 by the designer of the same name, a fashion design graduate of the Faculdade de Arquitetura at the Universidade de Lisboa. That year she opened an atelier in Setúbal — a space that is both workshop and store, open to anyone who wants to watch the pieces being made. The project is a family one. Benedita's creative vision was joined by her mother, Perpétua Formosinho, whose background is in the sciences, and it is across two generations that they design pieces meant to last in a wardrobe: cuts that fall naturally, a palette of neutral tones and a design that does not depend on the season. The choice of materials defines much of the work — linen, recycled undyed organic cotton, burel made from the wool of Serra da Estrela sheep, and manta alentejana. The brand keeps a partnership with one of the country's largest textile recycling plants, which turns its own offcuts into new yarn through a certified process and returns it to production. Everything is made in Portugal and on a small scale, using hand techniques and the work of local communities that preserve traditional know-how.
