Nortada is a Portuguese craft beer brand, created in Porto in 2017. It grew out of a project by two friends from the brewing industry — one from marketing, the other from microbiology — who spent several years studying recipes and testing fermentations before launching the brand in April 2017. Production takes place at Fábrica Nortada, on Rua de Sá da Bandeira in central Porto, one of the best-equipped brewing plants in the country, with capacity above five hundred thousand liters a year. The factory is not only production: it works as a space open to the public, with a restaurant and bar, and can be visited to taste the beers where they are made. The range covers several styles, from lagers to IPAs, and styles itself the beer of the Norte. The stated aim is to make craft beer part of everyday drinking rather than keeping it in a specialist niche.
