Sobre Cerveja Vadia
Cerveja Vadia was born in Ossela, in the municipality of Oliveira de Azeméis, and is one of the pioneering brands of Portuguese craft beer. It started as a hobby in 2006, when Nicolas Billard, Nuno Marques and Victor Silva got together to brew at home; the time each batch took meant they always turned up late to the Saturday night gatherings, which earned them the nickname "vadios" — layabouts — and ended up giving the brand its name. The business was formalized in 2010 and the first bottles reached the market two years later. The regular range rests on eight beers in distinct styles: the Loira (German pilsner), the Preta (dark lager), the Rubi (märzen), the Trigo, the Extra (doppelbock), the Thartaruga (IPA), the Nautika (baltic porter) and the Imperativa (imperial stout). Joining them are two dry ciders, apple and red berry, and the Vadia 100, an alcohol-free lager. The brewery was among the first in the country to pasteurize and to compete abroad, and has more than 30 medals from competitions such as the World Beer Awards, the Brussels Beer Challenge, the World Cider Awards and the Concours International de Lyon. In 2015 it opened the Vadia Brewpub and, around it, a calendar of its own: Maria Vadia, in which participants follow the hop harvest and the brewing of a beer from scratch; the Vadia Rock festival; C'AZEDU, devoted to sour beers and Portuguese grape ales; and the Vadia SkyRace, a trail running event in Oliveira de Azeméis. In 2018 it doubled its fermentation capacity to 30,000 liters.
