Citadin is a Portuguese men's shoe brand created in 2014 by one family — a mother, two sons and a son-in-law — after the sons, living abroad, kept coming across quality shoes at prices they thought unaffordable. Their answer was to set up production of their own and sell direct to the customer, with no middlemen and no retail markup. The shoes are designed and made by hand in São João da Madeira, at the center of the Portuguese footwear industry, in factories that also work for luxury houses. The materials are entirely Portuguese: the leathers, the soles and the buckles. Every pair is inspected before it goes out to the customer and, being handmade, shows small variations from one to the next. The range runs to more than twenty models, split across casual, classic and boot lines, and each model is named after a city — Paris, Sydney and Moscovo are among the most sought after. Prices sit between €65 and €120. After several years selling online only, the brand opened a store of its own in Lisboa in May 2018, on Rua Duques de Bragança.
