D’AVEIA is a Portuguese dermocosmetics brand, created in 2000 by the Dermoteca laboratory, based in Lisboa. The brand's origin lies in a loss. Dermoteca, founded in 1994 by Cristina Varandas, distributed an international dermocosmetics brand in Portugal that accounted for more than eighty percent of its revenue. When that brand was bought by a multinational group in 1999, the company lost almost all of its business overnight — and responded by creating its own brand the following year. The formulation is built on colloidal oatmeal, combined with rice and corn, with a protective, moisturizing, emollient and soothing action, designed for sensitive and reactive skin. The range covers dermatology, pediatrics and gynecology, and runs from cleansing and moisturizing in the first days of life to adult care. It is sold in pharmacies and parapharmacies, a channel where it is today among the best-selling Portuguese cosmetics brands.
