Rutz is a Portuguese brand of cork footwear and accessories, created in 2012 by Raquel Castro and Hugo Baptista. The idea was to bring together two industries Portugal already led separately: footwear and cork. The outside of the shoes is made of cork, a raw material harvested from the cork oak without felling the tree or compromising its growth, combined with linings and recycled materials — organic cotton, fabrics made from used bottles, natural rubber and alternatives to animal leather. Production is carried out in Portugal, in plants ranging from São João da Madeira to Benedita, in Alcobaça. The brand has three stores in Lisboa — at LX Factory, Príncipe Real and Campo das Cebolas — and the range runs from men's and women's footwear to bags, belts and other accessories.
