Sobre Sovina

Sovina was the first Portuguese craft beer to reach the market on a commercial footing. It was born in Porto, from the trio Os Três Cervejeiros — Alberto Abreu, Arménio Martins and Pedro Sousa — who had been selling ingredients and equipment to home brewers since the late 2000s. After two years refining recipes and testing pilot batches, they released their first bottles on 28 October 2011, an Amber and a Helles. The regular range rests on five styles: Amber, a 6% bière de garde; Helles, a Munich-inspired lager at 5.2%; a 6.4% IPA; a dry Stout at 4.9%; and Trigo, a 5.8% weissbier. To these are added seasonal editions such as the Bock and the Natal, both from 2012, and the Baltic Porter, first brewed in 2015. The recipes use no colorings, preservatives or artificial extracts. The brand has changed hands twice since then: in 2018 it was bought by the Esporão group, which in 2024 moved production to the new brewery at Herdade do Esporão, in the Alentejo, and in September 2025 sold it to Cerveja Musa, a producer based in Marvila, Lisboa, retaining a 10% stake in the buyer.
