Zouri is a Portuguese eco-vegan footwear brand that turns plastic waste collected on the Portuguese coast into sandals, sneakers and espadrilles for women, men and children. Based in Braga, it was founded in 2017 and is led by Adriana Mano. The plastic picked up on the beaches is cleaned, processed and built into the raw material of the soles, combined with natural rubber, organic cotton and Piñatex — a fabric made from pineapple leaf fiber. The brand refuses leather, microfibers and synthetics across the whole range, which also includes accessories. Every pair is produced in Guimarães, in fair and ethical working conditions, and it is that concentration of production in a single place that guarantees the same finish pair after pair. Collecting the plastic is not done in isolation: Zouri has already mobilized around six hundred volunteers from local institutions, NGOs and schools to clean the coast. That traceability reaches the customer — every order ships with a letter setting out the materials used, the amount of plastic built in, where it was collected and the names of the people who assembled the pair.
