Sobre ADICO

ADICO is the oldest metal furniture factory in Portugal. It was founded in 1920 by Adelino Dias Costa, the son of a small-scale metalworker, in Avanca, in the municipality of Estarreja — where production continues today, on the street that bears the founder's name. The first items to leave the factory were beds, safes, sinks and hospital furniture; it was in the 1930s, with a line of tables and chairs for sidewalk cafes, that the piece which would come to define the brand was born. The Cadeira Portuguesa, the Portuguese Chair, designed in 1930 along Bauhaus lines — straight, unornamented — became a fixture of practically every cafe terrace in the country and a classic of Portuguese industrial design. The company is today run by the family's third generation, with five women among the shareholders, and employs around 65 people. ADICO's catalog is joined by the Outdoor and Classics collections, which bring together different types of furniture. In the Outdoor collection, recent launches include the NORMA, ALVA and MAR table lines and the FIKA two-seater sofa. The Classics collection keeps emblematic pieces of Portuguese design, such as Daciano da Costa's Peninsular chair, since reissued by ADICO. The brand has also been developing collaborations with designers and architects, among them Kengo Kuma, with whom it developed the 5008 OSAKA, a reinterpretation of the iconic 5008 chair presented at Expo 2025 Osaka. Around 80% of production currently goes to export, chiefly to France and Spain.
