BAMandBOO is a Portuguese dermocosmetics brand founded in 2017 and based in Lagoa, on the island of São Miguel, in the Açores. It began by making bamboo toothbrushes. The idea came out of a conversation between two friends, Nuno and Fernando, who wanted to answer the volume of plastic brushes discarded every year — and a bamboo handle in plastic-free packaging was the first product. The brand has changed course since then. Today it presents itself as a skincare house drawing on Azorean volcanic biodiversity: the formulas rest on ingredients such as seaweed, Azorean laurel, volcanic basalt and ground olive stone, combined with actives in common use in dermocosmetics — hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, bakuchiol, vitamin C. The range covers cleansing, serums, moisturizers, eye care, exfoliants and masks, joined by body and hair, natural deodorants and an oral care line, where the product the brand grew out of still lives. The products are vegan and made in Portugal, and the company describes itself as carbon neutral, offsetting the emissions of production and distribution. Its own shop is at LX Factory, in Lisboa.
