Founded in 1884, Bordallo Pinheiro is one of the most emblematic names in Portuguese ceramics. The factory, in Caldas da Rainha, was set up by the artist Rafael Bordallo Pinheiro and to this day still produces his iconic naturalist motifs — plants, animals, vegetables and fruit rendered with a realism, humor and level of detail all their own. The range takes in useful pieces (plates, bowls, platters, mugs, pitchers) and decorative ones that have become a symbol of Portuguese cultural identity and international reference points in ceramic design. Among the best-known pieces are the cabbage leaves, the rabbits and the birds, found in design collections and museums the world over. With 140 years of history behind it, Bordallo Pinheiro brings together artisanal production and contemporary design, launching collaborations and special editions that keep the brand relevant to new generations.
