Named after the charming fishing village near Ílhavo that inspired it, Costa Nova celebrates the Mediterranean way of life and the tradition of its iconic striped wooden "palheiros", the stilt houses that line the shore. The brand creates tableware collections in fine stoneware, bringing together quality and design in the best European tradition of ceramic manufacture, with pieces made from the finest natural resources in Portugal and preserving the handwork in every collection. Costa Nova is part of the COSTA NOVA Industria group, which has its origins in Grestel – Produtos Cerâmicos, founded in 1998 and based in Vagos. The group owns four production plants (Grestel 1, Grestel 2, Grestel 3 and Ecogres) and is today one of the world leaders in stoneware tableware manufacturing, present in more than 50 countries, with some 85 to 90% of production going to export, chiefly to the United States. Sustainability is a central strand of the brand through Ecogres®, a ceramic raw material of its own made from recycled, non-hazardous materials — ceramic surplus and by-products and other additives — created to make Costa Nova's stoneware greener without any loss of quality.
