Musgo Design is a Portuguese brand of sustainable furniture and lighting design, founded in 2016 by Margarida and Rui after they returned from three years living in Rio de Janeiro. The project comes out of a clear vision: to make objects with a history, using materials that already exist and deserve a new life. At the Musgo Design studio, the wood that arrives to be worked has not been cut from young trees. It is beams, doors, windows, floorboards and roof structures salvaged from old Portuguese houses undergoing renovation. Every piece of wood carries the marks of time, knots, imperfections and tones no new timber can replicate. It is precisely in that imperfection that the value of what Musgo Design makes resides. Lamps are the centerpiece of the brand's catalog — table and ceiling alike — combining reclaimed wood with concrete and organic varnish finishes. Each piece is given simple forms, with a functional, contemporary design that sits well in different interior styles. Beyond the lamps, the brand develops furniture and accessories for the home, always with the same commitment: local production, reused materials and handwork. Musgo Design collaborates with small companies and local artisans, valuing trades at risk of disappearing and keeping production on a human scale alive. It is a brand for anyone who believes that consuming well means consuming less, but better — and that the objects around us should have an origin, a history and a purpose.
