Sobre Acushla
Acushla is a brand of organic extra virgin olive oil produced at Quinta do Prado, in Vila Flor, at the heart of Trás-os-Montes. The project began in 2006, on the initiative of Joaquim Moreira, and brought several generations of the same family together around the olive grove. The estate covers around 300 hectares and close to 70,000 olive trees, between century-old groves and more recent plantings of the region's native varieties — cobrançosa, madural, verdeal and cordovil. The oil holds the Denominação de Origem Protegida Trás-os-Montes — the Trás-os-Montes Protected Designation of Origin — and is farmed organically, to both European and North American standards. It shows a green-gold color, a fruity aroma with notes of fresh grass, green wheat and almond, and a balanced bitterness and pepperiness that leave a long, persistent finish, with very low acidity, in the region of 0.1%. Alongside the main blend are the Gold and Limited editions, a tinned oil in the Origin line, and versions flavored with chilli and truffle. The brand's mill was the first in Portugal to obtain FSSC 22000 food safety certification. International recognition followed: more than a hundred distinctions in fifteen years, mostly gold medals, at competitions in Switzerland, Italy, Japan, China, the United States, Israel and Greece, among other countries. Most of the production goes to export, and the oil also reaches the kitchens of Michelin-starred Portuguese restaurants.
