Sobre JOSÉ Gourmet

José Gourmet is a Portuguese brand of canned goods and gourmet products based in Lisboa, known for the illustrated tins it has turned into collectors' objects. It was born in 2008 from an idea by Adriano Casal Ribeiro, then living in Macau and unable to find outside Portugal the delicacies he missed. With his wife, Sofia Almeida Santos, and the designer Luís Mendonça, he assembled a catalog of iconic Portuguese products worked on with small and large Portuguese producers, in a relationship the brand frames as fair trade. The canned fish arrived in 2010 and is the heart of the range: mackerel, horse mackerel, tuna, sardine, cod, smoked trout and razor clam, in olive oil, escabeche or seasoned sauces. Around them sit pâtés, olive oils and vinegars — including DOP olive oil from the Alentejo and oils flavored with rosemary, lemon and piri-piri — along with jams, biscuits, wines from Porto and Madeira, moscatel, ginja, liqueurs and brandies. The visual identity is directed by Luís Mendonça and the tins are illustrated by names from Portuguese illustration such as André Letria, Gémeo Luís and André da Loba. It is that crossing of contemporary illustration and traditional product that sets the brand apart on the shelf, at home and abroad.
