Miss Can is a Portuguese canned fish brand, based in Castelo, in Lisboa. The 1911 the brand claims is not the year it was created: it is the year the Soares Ribeiro family set up two canning factories. Miss Can itself was born in the 2010s, at the hands of the family's third generation, who took the craft up again with a character — Miss Can herself — and a design approach that moves away from the traditional cannery aesthetic. It started out selling at Castelo de S. Jorge and ended up turning the family house into a petiscaria — a small-plates eatery — on Largo do Contador Mor, where the tins are served at the table rather than sitting only on a shelf. The range is built on sardine, mackerel and tuna, in olive oil and in seasoned preparations, with illustrated labels that are as much part of the product as the contents.
