Sobre Serramel

Serramel is the honey brand of Euromel, a family company based at Quinta dos Pocinhos, in Penamacor. The story begins in 1898, when Jorge de Almeida Lima installed the first movable hives at Quinta do Lameiro, in São Domingos de Benfica, Lisboa. In 1974 two great-great-grandsons recovered the old hives, moved from Lisboa to the Beira Baixa and chose the Serra da Malcata as their terroir. The house is now in its fifth generation. The range, protected as a nature reserve between Penamacor and Sabugal, has rolling relief, oak woods to the north and large stretches of Mediterranean scrub dominated by heather, rosmaninho and rockrose. It is from that flora that the brand's monofloral honeys come — rosmaninho, queiró, chestnut, linden, heather, oak — joined by harvests from other regions, such as eucalyptus from the Beira Litoral and orange blossom from the Algarve. The range extends to honey with fruit, dietetic products and granolas, and since 2004 also to the preserves and almonds of the Beirabaga line. The work has been recognized consistently in competition: two stars at Great Taste 2023 for the queiró and rosmaninho honey, gold at the 2020 Concurso Nacional de Mel for the eucalyptus, and distinctions in almost every edition since 2010. Production is certified to the ISO 9001 standard.
