About A Tarte

A Tarte is a Portuguese patisserie brand based in Lisboa, born from a simple ambition: to make the best almond tart anyone had ever made. It was started by Catarina and Vasco Valença de Sousa, two friends who sketched the idea out around a table, and who incorporated the company Once Upon A Tarte, Lda in 2012. The product that gave the brand its name has not changed: an almond tart with a firm shell and a soft centre, made by hand from good ingredients. A wider range has grown around it, and now takes in a gluten-free, lactose-free version with 50% less sugar, along with caramel and flor de sal, pecan, Basque cheesecake with Biscoff, dulce de leche and pecan, pistachio and chocolate Dubai-style, and La Mousse. Alongside the tarts, the brand makes cookies. The same project produced O Gelado, the house ice cream line, in flavours such as Madagascar vanilla, dark chocolate with hazelnut nougat, Portuguese lime, passion fruit and mango, several of them vegan. The tarts are sold online with delivery anywhere in the country, and through a network of stockists running from Ponta Delgada to the Algarve.
